Subject: 2nd Circulation: STANDARD CHINESE - the textbook for Chinese
Schools
-------------------------------------------------------------

During the Seminar on Chinese education held in Education Section in London
last October, the Chinese Education Department of CSSA-UK promoted a new set
of Chinese textbook - STANDARD CHINESE. All delegates from different Chinese
Schools showed strong interest in this set of textbook. This set of textbook
is published by the People's Education Press in Beijing, and specially
compiled for children who live overseas. The contents are specially tailored
so that the pupils can understand them easily and learn naturally. The
textbook covers materials for 9 levels, from low to high, and is composed of
27 books including pupil's books, teacher's books and exercise books. The
books are printed in A4 size and in high quality. What is more, we have been
offered the lowest possible price, £55-00 (fifty five pounds) per set.
Supported by the Education Section, Chinese Embassy, the Chinese Education
Department of CSSA-UK will undertake to purchase the STANDARD CHINESE
textbook collectively for all Chinese Schools. Therefore, I am calling all
Chinese Schools in the UK to organise a collective purchase of this textbook
if they want to use this textbook in their schools. Individual Chinese
schools should be responsible to collect the money and send it to Dr X Chen
at the following address:

46 Pimmcroft Way
Sale
Cheshire M33 2LA

It is our aim to let all schools have the textbook before September this
year. Therefore, we would be grateful if schools could send in their orders
with the correct amount of money by Sunday 20th May, 2000.
Non-CSSA Chinese schools and individuals who wish to use this textbook are
also welcome to order the books from us.
IMPORTANT:
1. All orders must be sent in with clear statements on the ordering
quantity and correct amount of money enclosed;
2. Money should be sent in the form of a cheque payable to Mr Xiaogang
Chen;
3. Contact name, address, telephone number, and email address must be
provided together with the order;
4. It would be unable to acknowledge your order and money unless you
provide a self stamped envelope;
5. It will be each school's responsibility to come to Manchester to
collect the textbooks when they have arrived. Details of this will be given
later.
The CSSA-UK, on behalf of all Chinese schools and individuals who are buying
the STANDARD CHINESE textbook, is grateful to ShiZhen TMC (Chinese
Traditional Medicine) UK Ltd in Manchester, who kindly sponsors the
international postage for sending the textbook from China to Britain.
Kind regards,

Dr Xiaogang CHEN, Chinese Education Department, 12th CSSA-UK
Mr Fang LIU, Vice Chairman, 12th CSSA-UK

Help Needed
#############

Dear All,

My friend Mr Huang was a visiting scholar from 1998-1999,
he then registered as a PhD student with another university
before he went back to China from the session 1999-2000. He
also got an ORS award for his study.

As he was going to do a Chinese project for his PhD, he has
to postpone his admission to this May. However his visa
application was refused recently as he was thought to have
an intention not going beck to China.

He meant to appeal against the decision to an Adjudicator,
but not sure whether it is proper or not to do so. He then
would need a representative from UK, who could be his
suitable representative? What kind of material he should
prepare to present to British Embassy for appealing?

Any advice or suggestions from you on this matter would be
highly appreciated! Please contact the following
email address, addressed to Mr Huang: [email protected]

or email me at: [email protected]
or tel me at: 01224-273435 (day)
